Tap Room Manager

Job Description – Tap Room Manager

About the organization:
West Sixth Brewing is Lexington’s newest craft brewery. We believe Lexington is long overdue for more high quality craft beer, and hope to fill that need through our production brewery and tap room.  We focus on producing the highest quality, fresh, delicious craft beer, and sharing it with others by distributing it to other restaurants and bars in the Central Kentucky area.  We are also the first brewery to can its beer in Kentucky, and will be distributing cans of our “West Sixth IPA” to stores throughout the Commonwealth. Finally, we also operate a tap room at our production facility, located in the Bread Box at 501 West Sixth Street.

We also believe that businesses should be measured not only by their financial success but also by the good their do for their community.  That’s why, in every decision we make, we weigh not only how it will affect the business but also how it can better the community that we live in.  From our choices to focus on green design inside the tap room, to our selection of cans for distributing out beer, to our commitment to give 6% of all net profits back to other community organizations, we try to live our values in every decision we make.

Oh yeah, and we also have a lot of fun while doing it!

About the Position:
West Sixth Brewing is looking to hire its first full-time position — a tap room manager.

A key part of our business, our tap room is often the first place that people experience West Sixth Brewing and our beers.  Because of this, we truly believe that the experience must be fantastic — from the service they receive, to the beers they drink, to the space they drink it in.

The tap room manager will be responsible for all aspects of the tap room operations.  In addition, the tap room manager will be filling the role as one of our bartenders day to day.

Day to day activities include

  • Bartending
  • Ensuring all of our customers have the best possible experience in the tap room
  • Managing and scheduling other bartenders
  • Opening up and closing out many days of the week
  • Managing the profitability of the tap room
  • Planning and executing events in the tap room – often working with other groups to do so
  • Working with the founders to properly market the tap room
  • All other day to day activities necessary to keep the tap room running.

The tap room manager will report to the founders of West Sixth Brewing.

Skills required:

  • Excellent personal communication skills
  • Attention to detail
  • Demonstrated leadership
  • A basic familiarity in using the web and other technology
  • The ability to lift 35 pounds
  • The ability to transport kegs with a dolly

Previous bar management skills not required.

The right person will be in at the ground level of a new Lexington start up business. We’re all wearing multiple hats, and you will too.  We’re looking for a team player, and one who is excited about the challenge of helping to build a successful business.  We’re looking for someone who is interested in playing a role in the overall business long term.

Compensation will be based on experience.

If you’re interested in applying, please send along a short note expressing why you’d like to join the team and why you’d be good at the job (i.e. a cover letter) and resume to jobs (at) westsixth.com
