Announcing our first seasonal: The West Sixth Christmas Ale

by Ben on November 19, 2013

Full can in truckWe’ve got some exciting news today: We’re releasing our first ever seasonal beer in a can – the West Sixth Christmas Ale!

This beer is a dark spiced ale with the aroma of cinnamon and nutmeg.  Weighing it a 9% ABV, it has a nice backbone that will hold up to the chilliest of nights.  This is our slightly darker taste on a holiday beer, and will be perfect for evenings by the fire!

We’re canning the beer tomorrow, and will be releasing the beer at 3pm on December 2nd at the taproom (the Monday after Thanksgiving).  It will also be available in limited quantities at retailers throughout Kentucky.  We’re only going to make 500-600 total cases of this beer, so we expect it to sell out quickly!  It will also be available on draft in the taproom starting that day.

This is our first time ever doing a seasonal in cans — it’s also the first Christmas Ale canned and distributed in Kentucky.  Because of the challenges with doing small runs of cans, we’ve had to figure out a different sort of process to label the cans and can the beer.  It’s been a fun adventure and we can’t wait to share the results with you.

Maybe a case could sneak into Ohio and find it’s way to Jungle Jim’s?

Will there be a limit per person on the cans the day of the release? This looks so delicious I want to get it for everyone for Christmas.

Been calling around Louisville and places are stating they may not have until tomorrow or even later in the week.. And allowed one 6-pack per family.

My neighbor brought over a 6-pack of Christmas Ale he bought yesterday at the brewery. Both of us are huge WSB IPA fans & were eagerly awaiting our first taste of the Christmas Ale.
What a buzzkill! The beer lacked adequate carbonation, and aside from a hint of salt and chocolate malt, had no discernible flavor, mouthfeel, spiciness or character whatsoever. It was a total disappointment to us both. Neither of us was able to finish our cans of the stuff. (And for two guys with a combined 80 years’ experience in consuming brewed beverages of all sorts, that’s amazing!)
Could this be a bad batch? It certainly didn’t taste worthy of its $13 per 6-pack price tag!
Thank goodness there were a few IPAs in the fridge to rinse the lingering taste of the Christmas Ale from our mouths.
Love most everything about West Sixth Brewing Co. – especially their IPA, but, in my opinion, the Christmas Ale falls flat.

Jeff – I think you are in the minority. Getting very good reviews. I thoroughly enjoyed the one I had and I will be “pacing” myself with the rest of my 6 pack to make them last.

I have been enjoying my 6 pack over this month! I would have bought more if available. You are going to at least triple the production volume next year, right? Right?

Does anybody have a spare can (empty or full) of the West Sixth Christmas Ale. I am a beer can collector who missed the boat when these cans came out. There may be money involved.
