A little update…

by Brady on January 11, 2012

Hard to believe we are only a couple of months from turning out the first batch on West Sixth. With all the excitement and construction, we’ve not given a good progress report in a while so I thought everyone might want some specific details on how things are going.

Right out of the gate, we knocked some holes in the outside walls for our windows and garage doors that will make up the beer garden and patio. The windows are a few weeks away, but the holes are already a big improvement. On the inside, we have framed up all the walls defining the production area, beer garden, tap room, mill room, and restrooms. We also have installed five trench drains that will make Robin’s life easier and the area much cleaner during production. The plumber is a couple days away from having the initial rough-in done.

Though they’re unfortunately empty, we have a few pallets of kegs ready for action and our behind-bar cooler will be assembled in the next week. We also have our gas boiler onsite ready to install soon. To make our lives easier, we have already purchased a forklift for deliveries. Also, as voted on by all owners and contractors, the single best thing we’ve purchased is the Commander…our scissor lift. He is ugly, but he has saved our lives more than once. For scraping paint, changing light bulbs, running wire, or you name it, the Commander is there for us.

On the equipment front, our brewhouse, tanks, and chiller are scheduled to land shortly. Also, we have a packaging line that will land in late February… more on that to come soon. On his own test equipment (for personal consumption only), Robin has been brewing some unbelievable ales including IPAs, browns, ambers, and some other little surprises we can’t wait to share!

In addition to all the demolition and mechanical stuff, we have also been designing the tap room tables, chairs, bar, and lighting. We are excited to be using some locally made furniture, reclaimed materials, and even some reused pieces off the building to create a comfortable and cool area to enjoy local brews. We are going to have tons of room both inside and out.

Can’t wait to get the doors open so we can have everyone down! Things are coming together fast!
